Nicollin’s strong opinion on the DAZN fiasco and a new channel

Only 500,000 subscribers to the DAZN channel, the new Ligue 1 broadcaster and an explosion of IPTV which could jeopardize the future of French clubs. Boycotted by a majority of supporters, the American platform is struggling to attract new viewers with prices considered too high for the quality of the offer offered. Faced with this fiasco, the Professional League and the channel fought against streaming services, a decision defended by Laurent Nicollin, president of the club. “The State must fight IPTV, and then we will see if beIN and DAZN are watched more.” A struggle which continues with the closure of several Telegram channels which broadcast Ligue 1 matches for free.

Departure of Vincent Labrune, return of Canal +… rights represent on average 30% of club budgets and the situation cannot continue according to them. So, at the RMC microphone, President Nicollin makes an observation and proposes a solution. “If there are subscribers, so much the better. If there is none, we will have to think about reviewing our way of showing French football to people. Will the league have to create its own channel? These are things that will have to be discussed in the months to come. »

To summarize

Faced with the low number of DAZN subscribers, Laurent Nicollin offers a strong solution to get back on track. But also mentions the possibility of finding another broadcaster. The fight against IPTV must be a priority for him and he does not rule out the creation of a channel by the LFP.
