“We cried”, Daft Punk: the completely new confession of Pharrell Williams to Anne-Elisabeth Lemoine

It's not every day that we have the chance to see Pharrell Williams in an interview on French television. He is one of the most important men in the artistic sphere. In addition to his status as a music superstar, he is in fact the artistic director of the famous Parisian brand Louis Vuitton. His presence on the set of C to you was therefore a real event in itself.

He was there to present Piece by Piecehis new biopic which will be released on November 20 in theaters. An animated film where all the characters are made of Lego. While waiting to discover this film, Anne-Élisabeth Lemoine took the opportunity to look back on the artist's career. He notably spoke of the importance of Daft Punk in his career and their extraordinary collaboration on the album Random Access Memories.

Pharrell Williams discusses his relationship with Daft Punk

The presenter of C to you and the columnists seemed almost impressed to receive such celebrity on their set. We felt a small moment of admiration in their way of welcoming him. Once settled in, the flow of questions began to intensify and one of the most touching moments was the broadcast of the extract from the documentary Memory Tapes by Daft Punk. We see Pharrell Williams discovering the two songs on which he collaborated with the famous French group. An unforgettable moment for him.

“We are so used to things, that we find that everything that happens to us is normal, but at this precise moment, (when he discovers the song, editor's note), I am hit hard by this experience. With Daft Punk, I reconnected with my artistic soul. The night of the Grammy awards, we cried. I learned that night to be grateful. I am not the cause, but a receiver.”

His relationship with Bernard Arnault

Since February 14, 2023, Pharrell Williams is no longer just a music star. He has indeed taken the reins of the artistic direction of the famous luxury brand Louis Vuitton. He succeeded Virgil Abloh, a true fashion legend, who sadly passed away. This appointment notably allowed him to maintain privileged relations with Bernard Arnault, the boss of LVMH.

“It’s a great honor, I’m blown away every week. Bernard Arnault is an extremely intelligent person. He is an extremely astute businessman, but above all he is a visionary. He works with Pietro Beccari who is also very talented. They gave me the keys to the house for the entire creation of the men's department. For me, it’s a waking dream.”
