Hippocrates: a season 3 under the sign of clandestinity

Alexis LebrunNovember 7, 2024

After three years of absence, Thomas Lilti's medical series is finally back. And the least we can say is that in this third season, the situation is not getting better for Hippocrates' caregivers…

A memorable introduction

It's a tense and almost unbreathable scene as Thomas Lilti masters it to perfection. Intervening for SOS Médecins, Alyson (Alice Belaïdi) finds herself in the middle of summer in a suffocating apartment where tension rises because a man is between life and death after waiting for help for six hours. Alone facing white-hot loved ones, Alyson is physically abused while trying to save her patient's life.

No doubt, with this extremely shocking introduction, Thomas Lilti's series reminds us that it has lost none of its realism and its harshness. Always alone in commandHippocratesthe emergency doctor turned screenwriter and director decided to sidestep the health crisis to better tell its devastating consequences on the French health system.

An almost insurrectional atmosphere

Out of breath, the Poincaré hospital in the series is half-closed during the summer – where these six new episodes ofHippocrates. If we add a strike by SOS Médecins due to Alyson's attack, the emergency rooms literally explode due to the lack of beds and the absence of staff. Not all patients can be treated, and a terrible sorting must take place, in an almost insurrectional atmosphere that sends shivers down the spine.

Consider for example that at 8 p.m., the emergency rooms are now closed, and that all unregistered patients waiting in the corridor are invited to go and get treatment elsewhere… But that doesn't matter: the head of the emergency room, Olivier Brun (Bouli Lanners, always fantastic), does not budge. Marked by Igor's suicide during the previous season, he now refuses to allow his teams to exhaust themselves with endless schedules.

A new kid (who won't be disappointed with the trip)

But not every character is willing to question their Hippocratic Oath. This is particularly the case of Chloé (Louise Bourgoin), a true soldier of care, who naturally makes a slightly crazy decision: to create a clandestine hospital within the Poincaré enclosure. She is obviously followed by her colleagues, even if this idea will inevitably cause other problems…

We are very pleased to see the entire cast of the series, some of whose members have exploded in the cinema in recent years (hello Karim Leklou). And there's something new!

Already seen in several films by Thomas Lilti (First year, A serious job), William Lebghil comes to play David, Alyson's friend who is also an ophthalmologist accustomed to the comfort of private clinics. Suffice to say that when he discovers his partner's daily professional life, he is somewhat hallucinating. And truth be told, even after three seasons, you don't get used to it either.
