“Pandora”: our review of season 2 which arrives on RTBF

Mark Van Dyck (Yoann Blanc) who became Minister of Justice is once again in turmoil in season 2 of the Belgian series “Pandore”.

If Krystel (Myriem Akheddiou), ex-collaborator of Mark Van Dyck, now works within the company Gaï-App, Sasha (Melissa Diarra), ex-journalist, now works in the communications team of the Minister of Justice . The pawns have therefore all moved on the chessboard, but the game still looks as close as ever. Especially since the turmoil and resentment of the past have an undeniable impact on the private lives of Mark Van Dyck and Claire Delval…

At the limits of legality

From the first episode, we find the ingredients that have made the Belgian series successful internationally: a critical look at the functioning of the judicial and political worlds, true representativeness and social diversity among the main characters, particular attention to the place of women in the public sphere as well as the specific violence that targets them. And disturbing echoes of the challenges, ideological deviations and pitfalls facing our democracies.

Addressing power games and negotiations to try to stay there, the themes covered by the series Pandora resonate with the elections that we have just experienced and with all those still to come, well beyond European territory.

Season 2 of the Belgian series “Pandore” addresses the issue of new, increasingly intrusive technologies that threaten our rights and our privacy.

In this saison 2questions around the defense of democracy and sexist violence are reactivated, but a new, even more worrying theme emerges: that of citizen surveillance. In these six new episodes, it is indeed a question of intrusive applications installed on phones, without the knowledge of their users, and of the limits of legality in the battles waged by Justice and the State.

Dominated by four strong women, torn by their contradictory desires and their doubts – Anne Coesens (Duels), Myriem Akheddiou, Edwige Baily and Melissa Diarra –, the series Pandora seduced by its nuanced and terribly human characters, reflections of a very invested cast.
