Channel, time, schedule… everything you need to know about the 2024 Ballon d'Or ceremony

A well-kept secret until now, the names of the 2024 Ballon d'Or winners will be revealed on Monday October 28, from 8:45 p.m., during a ceremony broadcast on the L'Équipe channel, accessible on TF1+.

The most coveted individual awards, one for the best player and the other for the best player of the past season, will be awarded in the setting of the Théâtre du Châtelet in .

Who will succeed Aitana Bonmati and Lionel Messi on the Ballon d'Or list? If the female distinction seems promised to the Spanish midfielder of Barça, candidate for her own succession, which would allow her to match the performance of her compatriot Alexia Putellas, the only double winner in 2021 and 2022, the male award will land in unknown hands.

In the absence of Lionel Messi, title holder and record holder with eight Ballons d'Or, and Cristiano Ronaldo, unheard of for 21 years, but also of Luka Modric and Karim Benzema, two of the last four winners, a new era is about to open. A four-way match seems to be taking shape between Jude Bellingham, Rodri, Dani Carvajal and Vinicius Jr. The latter, announced as the big favorite, could become the first Brazilian player to lift the most prestigious individual trophy in since Kaká in 2007.

If the winners will be revealed on Monday October 28, everything was decided well before. On September 5, two lists of 30 players and 30 players were drawn up by the magazine Football. The 30 nominees were voted on by a panel of 100 specialist journalists, responsible for establishing a ranking. New this year: they will vote for a Top 10 in descending order, i.e. 15 points for the first choice, 12 for the second then 10, 8, 7, 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 point.

Since 2018, 50 journalists specializing in women's football have followed the same process to nominate the Ballon d'Or among 30 contenders, as for the men.

Two new awards awarded

The presentation of the Ballons d'Or will be preceded by the awarding of the Socrates prize, the Lev Yachine trophy, rewarding the best goalkeeper, Raymond Kopa, awarded to the best player under 21, and Gerd Müller, awarded to the best scorer, who should be shared by Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappé this year. On the occasion of this 68th edition, two new awards will be awarded: one for the best coach and the other for the best coach.

As for the men's Ballon d'Or, the day will kick off at 4:45 p.m. The candidates, placed from 30th to 11th place, will be revealed gradually on the channel The Team. At the same time, the rankings for the women's Ballon d'Or will be trickled down.
