It’s now eleven years since Breaking Bad ended and obviously… we miss its world and its characters a little. Very recently, Vince Gilligan on a very specific detail of the series, which he would have liked to do differently if possible.

A grudge against Jessie

Considered one of the best television series of all time, Breaking Bad has left its mark on us all with its impressive characters, its remarkable writing and its damn interesting themes to study. A flawless performance for many that we owe in part to Vince Gilligan, creator and showrunner of the series who, moreover, continued to work on the excellent, if not better, series Better Call Saul, which serves as a gripping prequel to Breaking Bad.

Gilligan recently spoke to Variety in an interview, during which he talked about his precious baby… he admits that he and his team missed the boat on one specific thing, which you probably wouldn’t expect:

I’m very proud of the series and I have to point out that it was a group effort. I had wonderful writers and we worked really hard to put everything together. I think the only thing we did wrong was Aaron Paul’s teeth. They are too perfect.

We warned you. If Gilligan has one regret, it is the teething of Jessie’s character, which he does not consider logical given the protagonist’s past…

For a guy who’s taken that many beatings and smoked that much meth, his teeth wouldn’t look that good. We probably didn’t do the country any favors, but that being said, Aaron is fun to watch, so it was neat for the viewers.

A character narrowly saved

Not only did Jessie Pinkman have the honor of having his teeth in good condition, but above all his life was saved: as a reminder, the production’s original plan was simply to have the character die in the very first season. However, while the writers’ strike was taking place, Gilligan finally worked on another script and chose to keep Jessie for the rest of the project… and he did well: it’s hard to imagine Breaking Bad without Aaron Paul’s performance , obviously linked to that of the great Bryan Cranston and the rest of the cast. We had a narrow escape.
