BeInSports: A match on Canal+, Ligue 1 refuses!

The conflict continues between BeInSports and the LFP while the Qatari channel, which broadcasts one Ligue 1 match per championship day, has still not paid a cent since the start of the season.

The contract between BeInSports and the Professional League has still not been signed and therefore, the Qatari channel believes that it is not outside the law. Since the start of the season, it has broadcast one match per championship day (Saturday at 5 p.m.) but unlike DAZN, which honored its first payment, BeInSports has still not paid a cent to Ligue 1 clubs. This situation is starting to irritate club presidents since the clubs are expecting a sum of around 25 million euros for the August 31 payment.

The main cause of this disagreement, the refusal of the LFP to authorize BeInSports to sublicense its match and therefore broadcast it on another channel. Questioned by L’Equipe, the president of Stade de , Jean-Pierre Caillot, confirmed the LFP’s position on this subject. “Most clubs need money. We therefore asked the LFP to find agreements with BeInSports to quickly resolve this issue. You have to sign the contract because it seems that it is necessary to receive the money. Co-broadcast? If we give BeInSports this right, why not give it to DAZN? This seriously complicates things. Everyone must now take a step forward” explained the president of Reims, also president of the Ligue 1 college.

Canal+ on the lookout to co-broadcast a Ligue 1 match?

The fact remains that for BeInSports, it is important to be able to sublicense its match to another channel if it wishes in order to recover money. In his Thursday evening show, the Evening Team also slipped that it was not impossible that, if BeInSports was authorized to sublicense its match, it is Canal + which could rub its hands by recovering the Saturday match at 5 p.m. in co-broadcast without needing to negotiate with the LFP since the deal would then be concluded between the encrypted channel and BeInSports. But for now, the presidents of Ligue 1 do not want to hear about this scenario and the situation is therefore not ready to change. In the meantime, the money does not fall into the coffers of the clubs… except that of the much criticized DAZN.
