The showrunner explains why the Greenland sequence was cut short

In season 2 of Daryl Dixonthe series derived from The Walking DeadCarol tries to join Daryl in . During her plane trip, she makes a rather turbulent stop in Greenland. Enough to arouse the curiosity of fans to understand what has become of this country in the face of the epidemic…

This month of October is punctuated by the release, every Monday, of a new episode of season 2 of The Walking Dead : Daryl Dixon. After the events of the first season which saw Daryl (Norman Reedus) arrive in France and come to the aid of Laurent, a young boy supposed to be immune, the latter has now found refuge in Mont-Saint-Michel. On the other side of the Atlantic, her friend Carol (Melissa McBride) managed to convince Ash (Manish Dayal), a plane pilot, to take her to Europe under the false pretext that Sophia was still alive… But their flight is interrupted for a while by a fuel leak. They then land in Greenland. A sequence rich in action but fast, contrary to what David Zabel, the showrunner would have liked.

Daryl Dixon saison 2 : “In a different world, we would have spent more time there” admet David Zabel

When Carol and Ash land the plane in Greenland, they face some rather tough walkers, some of whom have remained inanimate in the earth for years, certainly trapped in the ice during successive winters. They also cross paths with two women who have lived in isolation since the start of the epidemic. A promising plot, offering a new perspective on the universe The Walking Dead in a country with a very different climate from the United States or France. But this parenthesis finally ends in half an episode. A speed of processing that David Zabel regrets: “We had the idea that two scientists could have survived, alone in their station. After the apocalypse, they would have managed to continue living there. We managed to make a good story out of it. I like it very much. But in a different world, we would have spent even more time in Greenland, but we only had six episodes to wrap up the season.”

The Walking Dead : does the legend of Tupilak to designate zombies really exist?

The other question that may bother us when looking at this express passage on Danish soil is to know if the legend of Tupilak, evoked by Carol’s “rescuers”, to designate the walkers, really exists. And the answer is yes: in Inuit mythology, the tupilak (also written tupilaq) is a monster created by a shaman from animal remains. These evil beings are created to be sent after and harm a specific person.
