“The Weakest Link”, “Werewolves”… Why games are essential in the schedules of TV channels

DECRYPTION – General knowledge quizzes, surveys, return of iconic brands… Game shows are making a comeback on the small screen.

In the coming days and months, viewers will be spoiled for choice. This Friday, TF1 is preparing to launch “The Master of the Game”, an Agatha Christie-style closed session hosted by Laurent Ruquier. In this televised Cluedo, twelve celebrities (Chantal Ladesou, Valérie Damidot, Max Boublil, Francis Perrin, Arnaud Ducret, etc.) find themselves cut off from the world, in a sumptuous residence in order to participate in an investigation game. The same day, Canal+ will inaugurate its television adaptation of “Loups-garous” by Thiercelieux, the iconic French board game – 7 million copies sold – in a version imagined by comedians Panayotis Pascot and Fary. An investigation game, once again, served by a unique cast combining a former DGSE spy, a criminal lawyer, a poker player, a mathematician specializing in algorithms…
