The Council for Observing the Rules of Ethics and Professional Conduct in the Media (CORED) expressed its concern following an incident that occurred on September 25 during the program “Debate de fond” on the 2STV channel. This event involved journalist Astou Dione and former MP Cheikh Abdou Mbacké Bara Dolly.

After hearing the journalist’s explanations, CORED noted that Ms. Dione admitted professional misconduct and apologized to the public. However, the council asked him to renew his apology directly to his guest during his next intervention.

CORED stressed the importance for television channels to stand out from social networks. Inappropriate live behavior can influence a vulnerable audience looking for role models. This situation highlights the responsibility of the media in the dissemination of ethical content.

To 2STV managers, CORED reminded that the quality of a live broadcast depends on the production team. He criticized the passivity of the technical team during the incident, stressing that it tarnishes the reputation of the channel and journalism in general.

Although CORED took note of Ms. Dione’s apology, it urged broadcast journalists to be vigilant to preserve the image of their profession. The council also called on media managers to supervise their teams more closely in the exercise of their profession.
