Why have several TV channels been singled out in the fight against doping?

This Thursday, October 3, 2024, as part of the fight against doping, Arcom, the French audiovisual policeman, pinned down several channels in the country. For what ?

L’Arcomthe French audiovisual policeman, singled out several television channelsthis Thursday, October 3, 2024.

Obligations not respected

The chains Eurosport 2 and franceinfo are pointed out as having not respected their obligations to participate in the fight against doping in 2022 and 2023. The paid channel RMC Sport 1 is also cited for its failings in 2022, where it only broadcast a single program “outside the imposed time slot”. Under a 2012 law, channels must contribute “in the fight against doping and the protection of people practicing physical and sporting activities” by broadcasting programs of more than 2 minutes on these subjects at least once each year.

The Eurosport pay channel package has indicated that it has not broadcast the required programs only on the Eurosport 1 channelleaving Eurosport 2 to get pinned. As for the public continuous news channel franceinfoshe is among the culprits because she did not provide Arcom its contribution for 2022 and 2023, unlike the Télévisions channels which have fulfilled their obligations.

What figures in recent years?

In total in 2022, of the 33 national channels concerned, 21 have fully applied the rules and 9 partially. Last year, they were more numerous : out of 36 channels, 28 complied fully with the obligations and 6 partially. The “angles” proposed by the editors were “varied, both in the context of amateur and professional sport, and sometimes by specifically addressing young audiences”, welcomes Arcom.

As the Olympic Games approach, “the deadline, of importance for French anti-doping, has regularly been mentioned in the declared programs“, notes the independent authority. It observes, however, that “short formats, or sequences lasting less than two minutes always represent too large a part emissions declared by publishers”.
