“My character hides her game because she carries a secret…” Marie-Anne Chazel says more about her role in the TF1 series

Télé-Loisirs: If you had to introduce Chatal Legoff, your character, to friends, what would you say about her?
Marie-Anne Chazel
: She is a very original person, who lives in her forest and who talks to trees, plants and animals. She is above all a caregiver, someone caring, but who hides her game well because she carries a secret. What I liked is that she is much more troubled and gloomy than she seems.

How do you play the secret in front of the camera?
Already, by having it in mind in each scene, because I am sure that the audience perceives it. Then, by small technical details: an eye that moves, a way of not looking straight into the eyes… And at the same time, you have to be very sincere. We build the character according to the end of the story. Faced with her daughter played by Nolwenn, this mother is always two steps ahead because she is burdened with everything she knows, everything she has experienced, and everything she has hidden.

BroceliandeMarie-Anne Chazel: “With each take, Nolwenn worried about whether it was going well.

How did your relationship with Nolwenn begin?
I met a great girl! Someone who was humble and who didn’t arrive as a “star”, with all her background, from the Star Ac to the extremely popular artist she is today. Plus, we were in a region where people love her! I really liked her approach. At the end of each take, she worried with us to see if everything was okay. In addition, she arrived knowing her text like the back of her hand – which is not always the case. These are values ​​that speak to me.

What advice did you give him?
I told her that she could rely on her stage experience, her way of speaking to people, of positioning herself in relation to the audience, except that here, it was the camera that was looking at her. Contrary to what she might think, she already had this baggage within her that she could rely on.

Were you surprised by the image you had of her?
I didn’t have a very precise image of her, even if I really like her voice, very rare. I who appreciate classical singing, I felt that, behind it, there was work. When I learned that she also played the piano, I understood that she had a very solid structure. She is really someone who thinks, and we found a lot in common!

Which ones?
For example, I played Marius and Fanny and she loves Pagnol! She has a lot of energy, is interested in lots of things and we share the same values ​​regarding work.

Are there any scenes that you shot together that will particularly remain in your memories?
The ones about revelations. I can’t spoil it for you, but I can’t tell you that something really happened between us. It was loaded, both in content and in emotions.

Since you started almost fifty years ago, has your understanding of the profession changed?
As we get older, we lose some things, of course, but I think we gain others. Personally, I have gained confidence. I am lucky, at my age, to be able to choose projects that amuse me and that I like. It is wonderful to still be able to participate in this kind of adventure, to be in contact with other generations, to observe how they evolve. I take great pleasure in it. Today, I do this job with more inner lightness, without it being a matter of life or death. When I was young, it was vital to act. I was passionate. With the Splendid troupe, I was searching for myself as an actress, I was afraid of not succeeding. Today, I am more jubilation.
