This Sunday, November 19 at 9:05 p.m., TFX is rebroadcasting the film The equals with Didier Bourdon and Bernard Campan. The feature film tells the story of Didier and Bernard, two brothers-in-law who are completely opposed to each other. One is a pharmacist and the other is a suburban teacher. The only thing that brings them together is the hatred they have for each other. Addicted to cigarettes, they take refuge in this addiction to appease their anger. But during a family reunion, they make a bet: to go at least two weeks without cigarettes. Becoming even more aggressive and sensitive, the two brothers-in-law will show all the colors to those close to them but will above all wage a merciless war…
-The success of Les Inconnus in the 90s
The equals could have been the sequel to The Unknowns on the big screen but a falling out between the three actors and their manager, Paul Lederman, went wrong. Backtracking. At the end of the 90s, Les Inconnus met with great success. On France 2, TV of the Unknowns is a big audience success with sketches that have become cult and which have entertained millions of French people for many years. Their first film, The three brotherswas released in December 1995 and the comedy attracted more than 7 million spectators in cinemas. A plebiscite. Reassured by these figures, the Unknowns begin to think about their second film but the sequel will get complicated.
The equals : Pascal Légitimus victim of an internal conflict
Paul Lederman met the future Unknowns in 1986 and the alchemy was total. At least at first. In 1993, the talent scout made Les Inconnus sign a contract, obliging them to cede their rights to their first three films. Unhappy with the terms of the contract, Les Inconnus decide that their next film will be written, directed and performed solely by Didier Bourdon and Bernard Campan. So, The equals was released in 1997 without Pascal Légitimus in the cast. Bringing together more than 4 million spectators, the feature film was also a success but the comedians refused to share the rights to the film with their manager. Furious, Paul Lederman then took legal action, believing that the artists had violated their contractual obligations. At the end of a bitter legal battle, it is considered that the 1993 contract is not void, Bernard Campan and Didier Bourdon must pay damages to Paul Lederman.
