This Sunday, January 12, on France 5, Mélanie Taravant presented a new issue of C Medialive. This week, the host received two strong personalities from the small screen, namely producer Alexia Laroche-Joubert and Sébastien Thoen. The latter came to promote his new show called Make us laugh!
“This is the The Voice comedians“, summarized Mélanie Taravant. And for her guest to confirm: “Yes, that’s a bit like it. We brought in young people from all over France, we kept 40 of them in total to come on stage to do their first sketch, in front of a jury who tells them if it’s not bad and everything. But it is not a jury which condemns, on the contrary, we encourage them“.
Sébastien Thoen has come a long way
This comedy TV show – the first since We just want to laugh about it played by Laurent Ruquier on France 2 from 2010 to 2014 – is also synonymous with “return home” for Sébastien Thoen given that it is broadcast every Thursday on Comédie+ and also available on the MyCanal platform. Sébastien Thoen spent nearly 20 years within the group, where he participated in various shows such as Le Journal du Hard, Le Vrai Journal, Le Grand Journal or even The Canal Football Club. A great adventure which suddenly ended in 2020, when he was fired, the fault of a sketch. At the time, the comedian attracted the wrath of Canal+ executives after parodying the show Professional Time (Cnews) with Julien Cazarre and Thomas Séraphine.
“It’s not because we make a parody that we don’t like people, I make jokes. It’s not because we make fun or say bad things. Anyway, I will continue“, he defended himself again on the set of C Media.

But now in 2023, three years after the controversy, Sébastien Thoen is recalled and it would be Vincent Bolloréwhich took over the encrypted channel, which would be the origin of its reinstatement. “That’s the legendquips the main person concerned. But whatever, I don’t care about employment contracts. I sign, I come like this, I plant my vegetable garden in my corner and then there you go“. And to add more seriously: “I think there was a misunderstanding three years ago, everyone got excited when in fact it was just a sketch“.
Note that his accomplice at the time, Julien Cazarre, was not recalled for his part. “He’s on RMC, he makes his jokes about football and that suits him very well, he doesn’t want to return to Canal so he’s going to do other things“.
