Lhe race for the German chancellorship is launched on X, with a red carpet for the far right. Elon Musk – who joined the electoral campaign for the early legislative elections on February 23 in Germany, calling for people to vote for the far-right party AfD (“Alternative für Deutschland”, literally “Alternative for Germany”) – organized an interview on its social network with Alice Weidel, controversial leader of the AfD. The interview, broadcast live this Thursday, January 9 on the billionaire’s platform, is a boon for this movement which is credited with more than 20% of voting intentions in the polls.
“Thank you Elon for having me,” began Alice Weidel before presenting her party, of which she is the co-president. The one who must officially be inducted as a candidate for the AfD this weekend, continued by criticizing the government which according to her has “destroyed” and “ruined” Germany for around twenty years, listing in particular the migration and energy policies led by Angela Merkel.
The interview, followed by thousands of listeners, continued with very specific energy questions. Bureaucracy and education were also discussed by the tech billionaire and the head of the AfD. The latter, furthermore, affirmed that it was the first time that she had been able to talk reasonably about her opinions with someone, rejoicing at being able to have a debate without hostility with Elon Musk.
After a very virulent speech on immigration and multiple bursts of laughter, Elon Musk called for a vote for Alice Weidel. “Only the AfD can save Germany. End of story,” he insisted.
