It was one of the big surprises of the end of 2024, this superhero series made everyone agree, it’s a hit. Its director is thinking about what comes next.

The penguin and the bat

Having obtained the press score of 95 %”The Penguin” received consensus: it is a small masterpiece, it even won the prize of “Best Actor in a mini-series or film” during this week’s Golden Globes. This spin-off of The Batman in series form contains eight episodes to date, it was directed by Lauren LeFranc, who was behind several episodes of Agents du S.H.I.E.L.D. It follows Oz Cobb, aka the Penguin, a Gotham City gangster who climbs the ranks in his field. In addition to the writing, the casting is one of the strong points of the work, including Colin Farrell (The Lobster, SWAT: Elite Unit) and Cristin Milioti (Black Mirror) who plays the antagonist, Sofia Falcone.

Overwhelmed by two beautiful projects

During this interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Matt Reeves discusses the possibility of a season 2, a project which would complement, therefore, The Batman Partie 2. “Everything is on the table, we really felt like we can tell even more stories in this world. We just want to do something with it The Penguinbut what new can we do?”, expresses the director. With the end of the series, some fans mention the rumor of the participation of Sofia in the next part The Batman. This is a question on which Reeves did not wish to comment, other than to say that he noticed that the public was very interested in the character. “There’s a lot (to be done) on that, so again, I can’t tell you what it is. We don’t know yet.”

Concerning The Batman Partie 2which the filmmaker will also direct, the release was pushed back to 2027. Filming was supposed to begin in fall 2023 but was delayed due to strikes in the industry. On the Golden Globes red carpet, Matt Reeves said that writing the script for part 2 was in progress and that they couldn’t wait to begin production, which they hope to begin this year.
