It's now been more than 5 years since Astrid and Raphaëlle arrived on our television screens. And since the broadcast of the pilot in April 2019, the detective series led by Lola Dewaere and Sara Mortensen continues to attract millions of viewers each year.
For season 5, the last episode of which was broadcast this Friday, December 20 on France 2, an average of nearly 5 million curious people gathered in front of their screens to discover the new investigations of our two heroines. A success story which even pushed the English to make a spin-off, entitled Patience, which should arrive soon on Channel 4.
A success that cannot be denied
During an interview, AlloCiné asked Alexandre de Seguins, creator and screenwriter of Astrid and Raphaëlle, what, according to him, was the reason for this success which continues year after year.
“The only reason the show really works is because of the characters. The character of Astrid is particularly endearing, and the character of Raphaëlle is particularly identifiable”, he explained.
“Their friendship has something that feels good to viewers and which, therefore, contributes to creating this meeting. The actresses who play them have succeeded in creating this attachment. For the character of Astrid, we want to discover her world and we like to learn new things about her. She intrigues and at the same time we feel close to her. As for the character of Raphaëlle, she is not a traditional cop. She is not infallible, she is wrong.”
When will the series end?
Obviously, in the face of such success, we can only wonder if Astrid and Raphaëlle will one day end. We asked Alexandre de Seguins if he was already thinking about the end, and if he was not afraid of doing one season too long.
“Both”, he replied, laughing. “I kind of have in mind a way we could end the series. I hope that it won't end right away, but above all I hope that it will be a series whose ending we can write. However, we still have a lot to tell. But we all agree that we don't want to do the season too long. And I think we're not there yet.” This should reassure fans!
