At the end of episode 11 of season 7 ofOutlanderWilliam learns that Jamie is his father, overhearing a conversation between him and John Grey. But this revelation was changed compared to the novels by Diana Gabaldon from which the series is adapted.
By adapting literary sagas as vast as Game of Thrones or The Bridgerton Chroniclesscreenwriters can never keep everything the same. Certain passages are therefore cut, modified, or even completely invented, for the needs of the plot of the series. The production ofOutlander is also confronted with this problem by transposing Diana Gabaldon’s novels to the screen. In previous seasons, readers of the books have already identified several differences, for example the series having kept the character of Murtagh alive much longer than expected. In part 2 of season 7, of which Netflix broadcasts an episode every Saturday, following the rhythm of American programming, several elements of the story were modified. Thus, in the absence of Fergus and Marsali in this seventh season, it is not to save their son that Claire returns to Philadelphia, but to treat John Grey’s nephew. A little later, the writers made another change and it concerns the big reveal about William.
Outlander : the scene where William learns that Jamie is his father was changed from the books
Fans ofOutlander met William Ransom, Lord Ellesmere, in season 3 of the series. He is Jamie’s hidden son, raised by John Gray and his wife. In America, Jamie was surprised to find William, who had become a soldier in the English army. After all these years, the young man still doesn’t know that Jamie is his father. But the truth finally came out at the end of episode 11 of season 7. In Diana Gabaldon’s books, William realizes that Jamie is his father when he sees him again for the first time and notices their striking resemblance. In the series, however, William has already seen Jamie again on several occasions, so the writers had to find another way to break the secret. When Jamie comes back from the dead, although they believed him to have died in a shipwreck, John tells Jamie: “Your son will come home soon.” To which Jamie responds: “Is William here?” Without knowing that the young man is behind the door! How will William react? Judging by the trailer for episode 12, his reaction will also be “brutal and violent” than that of Jamie when he understands that Claire and John shared an intimate night after their wedding…
Outlander : this important scene from the series which had to be changed due to the absence of the actress concerned
Among the other big changes made by the series compared to the novels is a scene in season 4, in which Brianna was to meet her aunt Jenny. But, due to the unavailability of actress Laura Donnelly, who until then played the character of Jenny, the production was obliged to delete this important scene. For season 7, not being able to do without Jenny while Jamie and Claire were finally making their comeback in Scotland, she therefore preferred to replace the actress with actress Kristie Atherton. A change of actress which is not to the taste of fans. In season 3 of the series, a key moment between Brianna and Claire was also different compared to the books.
