Disney is leaving the world of TV in France but its platform will make it possible to discover titles in a linear way like on traditional television from next year in France.
The existing agreement between Disney and CANAL+ will not be extended and the American firm’s channels will stop broadcasting in France from January 1, 2025. A departure which saddens fans but it will be possible to enjoy specialized channels directly via Disney+ at the future.
Availability from next year
These channels, also called Streams on the other side of the Atlantic, arrived in September and they should arrive in our regions next year, without further details on the calendar, according to Les Numériques.
The uncertainty regarding the arrival in France is therefore still quite great but we will have the right to these streams which will only be accessible to subscribers to the platform.
These channels or streams are playlists that you can take on the road at any time with content that follows certain predefined themes but which is only drawn from the catalog to which you already have access.
Note that certain streams were initially reserved for Premium Disney+ subscribers, such as Hallowstream for Halloween, Hits & Heroes with Marvel and Star Wars, Throwbacks with “nostalgic” content as well as Real Life which broadcasts documentaries.
Real channels?
For the moment, real channels are not on the program in France but the United States notably has access to ABC News while in the Nordic countries, subscribers can watch football matches since Disney has purchased the rights to the UEFA cups.
At home, we will be able to have the right to a taste of that. Disney+ has announced that it will exclusively broadcast the next Oscars ceremony, usually broadcast by CANAL+, this will take place on the night of March 2 to 3, 2025 for France.
