France Télévisions is once again sticking to the news. On Sunday, December 8, the regime of Bashar Al Assad was overthrown and the city of Damascus liberated, putting an end to half a century of repression. A historic day for the Syrian people but also for the whole world.
France 5 wanted to celebrate this page in history. “Due to international news and historical events after the fall of Bashar El Assad, France Télévisions is modifying its programming and is offering, on December 15 at 9:05 p.m., the updated documentary Bashar the master of chaos by Antoine Vitkine »shared France Télévisions in a press release.

This film highlights the journey of the Syrian dictator who originally did not plan to reign. An ophthalmologist trained in London, he became president of Syria in 2000 after the death of his older brother. The thirteen years of civil war during which half a million Syrians perished are also recounted in the documentary, as are the relations between Syria, a country today in ruins and on the brink of the abyss, with France. Filmed in Syria, the United States, Russia, the Emirates and France, this film finally deciphers the way in which Bashar Al Assad maneuvered to stay in power. Some of his former close collaborators testify there, sometimes for the first time.
Already broadcast in 2016 on France 3, the film was enriched with new filming carried out in 2021 with new witnesses and new editing. It has just been updated again to perfectly transcribe the historical events that have just taken place.
