what to remember from the new trailer revealed by Apple + (SPOILERS)

Apple + released a trailer for season 2 of “Severance” which allowed us to learn a little more about the events that await viewers.

No going back possible. Nearly three years after the conclusion of season 1, “Severance” is preparing to make its return to Apple TV+ with a burst of ten new episodes, which will have the difficult task of resuming the course of a story that ended on a cliffhanger unsustainable. The trailer just published by the streaming platform promises to pick up the events where we left them. And to answer the questions – at least some – that have haunted viewers ever since.

The series directed by Dan Erickson follows the story of Mark, a former history teacher who, after the death of his wife in a car accident, agrees to join Lumon Industries, a biotechnology company whose employees undergo a procedure medical treatment requiring them to have an implant inserted into their skull, allowing them to dissociate their personality between their personal and professional lives. At home, they are “outsiders” and no longer have any memory of their work. At work, they are “inters” and no longer have any memory of their personal lives.

Act of rebellion

The end of season 1 saw Dylan, one of Mark’s three co-workers in the data refinement department, deactivate their dissociation, allowing their “ins” to learn about the lives of their “outs”. It is in this context that Mark discovered that his wife is not dead, and is in the premises of Lumon Industries. For what reason? The trailer indicates that this mystery will be one of the sensitive points of season 2. Irving, for his part, discovered that the employee he was in love with, and who retired, had a partner outside the ‘business. Finally, Helly, who attempted to end her life several times in season 1, realized that she was none other than the heiress to Lumon Industries.

The trailer also emphasizes that the act of rebellion of the four employees will be used by the company for communication purposes, turning events to their advantage by promising reforms, presenting them as whistleblowers whose opinion has been taken into account. However, we realize that things will not be as simple in reality, and that the control system around them will be strengthened.

Disastrous consequences

In a recent interview with the American site of Vanity Fair, Dan Erickson confirmed that season 2 of “Severance” would be “darker”, and that the stakes will continue to rise for the four protagonists. “We wanted to put our heroes in a scarier position, because Season 1 ends when they decide to poke the bear. They organized this little rebellion, and they managed to achieve meager success in doing so. But the central question of this season 2 will be: what happens when the bear wakes up? What will be the consequences of their small victory? I think, without saying too much, that they are going to be disastrous,” he says.

According to Dan Erickson, one of the most interesting characters to follow will be Helly, given that her “out” is a person completely opposite of her “in”. “In season 1, the ‘inters’ are still children. They’re adults, but in this context, they’re children experiencing their first feelings and discovering things about themselves. Season 2 will be more of the teenage phase. It will be about them gaining autonomy and deciding who they want to be, rather than the person who has been imposed on them,” he adds.

The series creator also promises that fans will learn more about the real business of Lumon Industries, and the practical application of the actions carried out by Mark and his colleagues within the data refinement department. “The idea is to get closer to this question, which is to know what the company actually does and the reason for the secrecy around its activities. In a sense, disassociation is the ultimate non-disclosure agreement because it is literally impossible to share what is happening, with the employees themselves having no memory of what they do once they are there. outside. The heroes are in this situation, but they will make significant advances to discover it, and this will involve new places and new characters,” he specifies.
