Audiences November 2024: Record of the year for TF1 which is soaring, France 2 at its lowest in 4 years, best historical month for C8, stronger than France 5 and TMC

The prosperous period of TF1 is confirmed. For the third consecutive month, the private channel received, according to the results published this Monday, December 2 by Médiamétrie, an audience share greater than 19 points (19,5%) in November 2024. With the best progression across all channels as a bonus (+1.2 points over one year), the front page achieves its best month of the year 2024. It has not reached such a high level since October 2023 (19.9%), marked by the broadcast of the World Cup in .

Conversely, France 2 is having a difficult month (14,1% in November; – 1.3 points over one year), the worst since December 2020. As a result of these contrary variations for the first two channels, TF1 (27.6%) regains the lead in the group rankings from France Télévisions (27.1%). This configuration has only occurred 4 times in the last 24 months (December 2022, October 2023, June 2024 and therefore November 2024). Thanks to the surges of C8 (+0.5 point over one year) and CNews (+0.6 point), the Canal+ group is making very strong progress over one year (+1.1 point).

The XV of France and “Cat’s Eyes” give momentum to TF1

In detail, TF1 can wear a broad smile. Never beaten during the past month (which has not happened since October 2023) with 55 successive days of domination between Saturday October 12 and Thursday December 5, 2024, the front page still owes a proud candle to the Blues of rugby. The three matches of the autumn tour of Antoine Dupont's XV of France against Japan, New Zealand and Argentina were full. TF1, which is reportedly eyeing the broadcasting rights for the Six Nations Tournament for the moment in the hands of France Télévisions, took off on Saturday 16 and Friday 22 November with a respective average audience share of 22.9 and 22 .8%.

Also above 20 audience share points, the days of November 11 (20.1%) and November 18 (20.1%) were driven by “Cat's Eyes”, the event series with Camille Lou and Constance Labbé. Another strong point: its daily news programs by far dominate those of France 2. Marie-Sophie Lacarrau's “Le 13 Heures” attracted, on average, 4.8 million viewers and 42.4% of the public , or 2.5 million more than the edition presented on the channel opposite by Julian Bugier. This is a record since April 2021.

Wednesday, the day on which the American series “Criminal Minds: Evolution” is broadcast, remains its most delicate day: TF1 thus fell to 16.9% audience share on Wednesday November 27. If it is consumed by almost one in three viewers in replay, the “Koh-Lanta” brand, whose “The Cursed Tribe” edition has just ended, did not allow the front page to cross the 18 mark. average audience share points on Tuesdays, November 5 and 26.

A month of November to forget for France 2

Second (14,1%), France 2 is therefore suffering. Above 15 audience share points only 9 days out of 28 in November 2024, including 4 concentrated in the rather successful first week (November 4 to 10), France 2 experienced a catastrophic audience weekend on Saturday November 30 (11.8%), evening of the “Téléthon”, and Sunday December 1 (12.0%).

Furthermore, the creation was not rewarded. Among the new releases, “In the Shadow” and “That’s !”two series launched on Wednesday, weighed down this day devoted to French films, generally favorable for Two. The success of the TV film “Signalements” with Cécile and Odile Vuillemin on November 20 is an illustration of this. The exceptional move of the documentary slot from Tuesday to Thursday due to the American presidential election was also a failure on November 7.

As usual, detective fiction gave some breathing room to La Deux: for example, the launch of season 5 of 'Astrid and Raphaëlle' pulled the channel upwards (18.1% share of average audience on November 8). Friday is the only day of the week during which France 2 manages to exceed 15 points of average audience share in 100% of cases. Thanks to “Don’t forget the lyrics!” finally, the Two obtains the best results in access.

France 3 stable over one year, M6, in slight decline, remains stable thanks to the success of “L'amour est dans le pré” and “France has an incredible talent”

Credited with 8,7% in terms of audience share, France 3, stable over one year and over one month, takes the podium. The appearance remains the same on the second public channel, boosted by the striking power of its French dramas broadcast on Tuesdays and Saturdays but also in the afternoon during the week. For example, the success of the return of 'Alex Hugo' with Samuel Le Bihan increased the channel's average to 12.5% on average on November 12. The performances of the Three are much less fortunate on Sunday, its average fell to 7.1% on November 17. The public channel also had difficulty establishing itself with its documentaries and entertainment offered on Fridays, such as “Great comedians of the small screen” and “La fête de la chanson à l'orientale”. These two programs did not exceed one million viewers in prime time on November 8 and 22. On Mondays, his films experience varying fortunes.

Fourth, M6 (8,1%) is down slightly over one year (-0.2 points). Unsurprisingly, the private channel scored its best scores on Monday with its blockbuster “L'amour est dans le pré” (up to 10.6% audience share on November 25, the day the first part of the balance sheet). “France has an incredible talent”, another show presented by Karine Le Marchand which topped the audiences 3 out of 4 times this month, left its mark on the month of November.

M6, however, remains without a solution on Saturday: the channel, directed by David Larramendy, plunged… below 5 audience share points (4.9% exactly) on November 23. It was not helped either by the failure of “Murder Club” with Éric Cantona, the finale of which was scheduled for Tuesday, November 5, and of the critically acclaimed series “The Spies of Terror” on Tuesdays. November 12 and 19. On the games side, “The Right Price”, although it progressed during this new burst of numbers at 6:30 p.m., remains at a low level (922,000 viewers and 6.3% of the public on average between October 7 and November 29 2024). For its part, the second number of the reboot of “Let the best win!”, presented by Philippe Lellouche and Anne-Sophie Girard, weighed down the channel's average on Friday, November 22.

Best historical month for C8, 5th channel ahead of France 5 and TMC

3.3% in September, 3.5% in October, 3,6% in November. Behind the leading quartet, C8, whose non-renewal on DTT should take effect after February 28, 2025, achieved its best historical month (+ 0.5 points over one year) and surpassed France 5 (3,5%) and TMC (3,3%). Locomotive of the Canal+ group channel, “Don’t touch my TV!” with Cyril Hanouna notably signed its historic audience record on Monday November 11 with 2.55 million viewers watching the last quarter of an hour of the show. The second part of the program, broadcast between 8:23 p.m. and 9:01 p.m., also achieved its best historical result on Thursday November 21. The channel's average audience share over one day reached 4.7%, its season record, on Thursday November 28.

The same day, France 5 also stood out with an audience share of 4.4% of the entire public. The public channel regularly performs well on Mondays with its prime focused on environmental issues, on Tuesdays with its social documentaries and on Thursdays with its “Large format science” slot. TMC, in great shape on Sunday with a series of Christmas TV films (4.1% average over the days of November 17 and 24), recorded its best day of the month on Monday, November 18 (4.2%), a marked day by a sharp rise in “Quotidien” with Yann Barthès in access and the success of “Gladiator” as a bonus.

Interspersed between CNews (3,1%) and BFMTV (2,8%), Arte reaches the 3 points audience share this month (+ 0,1 point) and achieves a feat: the Franco-German channel, stronger than M6 and France 3, in fact secured a podium in prime time on Friday November 29 with the broadcast of the new French fiction “Je ne me sera plus faire” by Gustave Kervern. Beyond the top 10, once again, 6ter (1,9% ; + 0,3 point over one year, stable over one month), which went from 18th to 12th place in the general ranking, made a notable comeback over one year. It notably doubles RMC Découverte (1,8%), RMC Story (1,7%) and TF1 Séries Films (1,5%), down 0.4 points and five positions overall compared to the same period in 2023. In this second part of the table, channel 20 is the one which shows the biggest drop with the L'Équipe channel (1 .3%; -0.3 points and four positions lost over one year).
