Orange has informed its subscribers that the Disney Channel, Disney Channel +1, Disney Junior, National Geographic and National Geographic Wild channels will leave the Famille by CANAL bouquet from January 1, 2025, as reported Allopackage. This decision follows the end of the agreements between Disney and CANAL+, and has a direct impact on the offers of Orange, which depended on this partnership to enrich its bouquet.
Fewer and fewer channels in the Orange bouquet
The Famille by CANAL bouquet, offered at 5 euros per month, remains accessible at this unchanged price, but loses a large part of its appeal. The operator has clarified that customers can cancel their subscription if they wish, but that it will not be possible to re-subscribe afterwards. This announcement is part of a trend that began several years ago: the bouquet had already lost six channels in 2022 and has no longer been marketed since 2020 in this form. From now on, it only offers around thirty channels such as Série Club, Paris Première, Nickelodeon and Planète+.
For Orange subscribers, this decision means that they will have to take out a separate subscription to Disney+ to continue to access content from the American giant. This increases the bill for fans of Disney programs, a service which had been largely integrated into the bundled offers of Orange and Canal+ in recent years.
The disappearance of the Disney channels marks a new stage in the evolution of Orange’s strategies in the television content market. By ceasing to market the Famille by CANAL bouquet in 2020, the historic operator had already distanced itself from this type of bundled offer. However, this new announcement could further reduce the appeal of its packages.
Orange is not alone in facing these changes in strategy from the Disney group. The end of the agreement between the American entertainment giant and Canal+ reflects a market in profound transformation, where streaming platforms now prefer to address consumers directly rather than going through intermediaries. Disney+, for example, has refocused on its own subscription model, with prices ranging from 5.99 euros (with advertising) to 13.99 euros per month for a premium plan.
For Orange, the challenge now is to maintain subscriber interest while adapting to these changes. The Famille by CANAL bouquet, long a selling point for the operator’s internet and television offers, is gradually emptying of its flagship content. Subscribers who choose to keep this bouquet will now have to make do with the remaining channels, which nevertheless offer numerous films, series and documentaries.
The abandonment of the Disney channels and the end of their partnership mark the end of an era where this content was accessible in a simplified manner and at a reasonable price. Subscribers will now have to juggle between different platforms to find all the programs they liked.
