It is in the heart of the impressive RTL Group building, on the Kirchberg plateau, that the studios of the group’s Luxembourg branch are housed. A team of around a hundred people works for this national channel, the size of a regional television.
In Luxembourg, we cover all local news, but also international news. Around that, we also have sports, cultural programs, etc.
Although RTL Luxembourg is a private entity, it is entrusted by the Luxembourg government with a public service mission, with the broadcasting of national information. Since it became an entity in its own right of the private group, the meeting for Luxembourg viewers has remained unchanged. 7 p.m., the Newsflash, 7:04 p.m. the magazine and 7:30 p.m., the newspaper. A few minutes before 7 p.m., Mariette Zenners, the presenter, is in makeup. From Monday, she will become a familiar face to TV Lux viewers.
There is still an audience along the Luxembourg border: the region of Arlon, Attert, Aubange, Messancy, etc. There is still an audience that is interested in the Luxembourgish language. There are also many Belgians who work in Luxembourg who are certainly interested in Luxembourg news. And let’s not forget the Luxembourgers who settled in the border region.
RTL Luxembourg is more than a TV channel. A second channel offers the broadcast of sporting events. RTL Luxembourg also has a radio station in Luxembourgish, one in English and Eldoradio for a younger audience. It is also a significant presence on the internet and networks in Luxembourgish, French and English. Initially, only the news with French subtitles will be broadcast on TV Lux.
The Magazine will be a second step. For the moment, it is not yet subtitled in French. This is a project that is in progress. We also have the constraint of image rights. We buy the rights for Luxembourg. We cannot step on the toes of our Belgian colleagues.
