“It’s starting to go quickly”: Violette Dorange, the new star of the Vendée Globe

At 23, Violette Dorange is the youngest in the 2024 edition of the Vendée Globe.

The one who is participating for the first time in this race around the world speaks for LCI.

“The main goal is to finish,” she says.

Some 40 skippers on the starting line… and one youngest. At 23 years old, Violette Dorange is the youngest participant in the 2024 edition of the Vendée Globe, whose competitors set off on November 10 from Les Sables d'Olonne (Vendée). Throughout the race, the woman who started sailing at the age of seven documents her Vendée Globe on social networks, where hundreds of thousands of people follow her.

The 45,000 kilometers to travel alone, without assistance, do not scare him. “I feel good, it goes quickly”says Violette Dorange to LCI (see video at the top of this article). “I feel like I’ve gotten into a little routine and the days are passing by without me noticing.” After three weeks of racing, she is near the Cape of Good Hope, off the coast of South Africa. “It’s starting to go fast, the strong wind is getting closer”she describes.

Violette Dorange ranks this Sunday in 26th position, an honorable result for those who have their eyes fixed elsewhere. “The main objective is first to complete this world tour”insists this student at an engineering school in . “I look at the rankings a bit, obviously, since it’s a race, but it’s a bonus. If I finish this Vendée Globe, I will be so happy.” This will not be an easy feat: of the 200 attempts to complete the race around the world since the first edition in 1989, only 114 have been successful.
