Thursday, November 7 marked the release date of the last five episodes of season 4 ofOuter Banks on Netflix. A second part at the end of which one of the emblematic characters of the series died. A disappearance to which the creators reacted.
Almost a month after the first part of season 4 ofOuter Bankssubscribers Netflix finally had the joy of watching the last five episodes, marked by the death of one of the Pogues. Arriving in Morocco to recover the legendary blue crown from Blackbeard’s treasure, Sarah, JJ, Kiara, John B, Cleo and Pope were quickly confronted by mercenaries as well as a completely uncontrollable sandstorm. When JJ managed to recover the precious relic, his biological father Chandler Groff took his girlfriend Kiara hostage. Faced with this threat, the young man decided to give him the crown, but he was far from suspecting that his father would murder him before the eyes of the pretty brunette, played by Madison Bailey.
Outer Banks season 4: JJ’s death was planned “for a long time”according to the creators of the series
If JJ’s death deeply affected early fans, co-showrunner Shannon Burke explained to the American media EW that the disappearance of the character was a carefully considered decision. “It’s something we always knew we were going to do. We have known this for a long time. That was his whole arc, he starts off as a child with an abusive past with his father, but he’s really generous […] As time goes on, he becomes more and more derailed, but he is also more generous. It’s the yin and yang of his character. This season’s arc started with him losing all his gold and in the end, making the ultimate sacrifice. We had planned this for a long time and at some point we realized that we were going to play this card this year.” The production team was notably able to count on the participation of Rudy Pankow, the interpreter of JJ, who wanted to see his character die. “We talked to him about this possibility, and it must have been years ago, and he was told: ‘It could happen’and he seemed enthusiastic about it. The specific news of ‘You’re going to die in this episode’, I think it was just as the scripts were being received. And he had a lot of ideas – there are lines that come from him where he told us: ‘JJ would say that’.”
Outer Banks : JJ’s death will be at the heart of the final season of the Netflix series
As expected, JJ’s disappearance will be the main plot of season 5 ofOuter Bankswhich will also be his last. “It’s going to be the main story for the rest of Season 5 – it’s going to be the emotional backbone. It’s not something you get over in a day or in an episode. It’s something that’s going to affect them and who will be the emotional center of the rest of the series. Grieving is only a small part of it, but they will all have to deal with this gap in their friendship and how it affects them.continued the one who is already excited to see how Kiara will cope after the death of her beloved.
