The Lac-Brome Literary Festival
The Lac-Brome Literary Festival

If we know the village of Knowlton for its rustic charm and its bucolic landscapes, we perhaps know it a little less for the Lac-Brome Literary Festival, which is nevertheless very inspiring.

The Lac-Brome Literary Festival, which is in its 3rd yeare edition, is deployed thanks to the Théâtre du Lac-Brome which hosts most of the activities. Its honorary president, the author Dominique Fortier, will put her two cents in throughout the event, which takes place from May 22 to 26.

Thus, children from the region will have the pleasure of meeting the author and illustrator Jacques Goldstyn for a workshop in their school. Until May 31, he will also offer an exhibition taken from his new album Croki, to be published shortly by La Pastèque. The kids will also benefit from the presence of Melissa Mollen Dupuis who will give them a workshop inspired by the album Nutshimit, which she published with Elise Gravel at Scholastic. Illustrator Isabelle Arsenault will open the doors of her workshop to young people aged 8 to 12 for a screen printing workshop, in the company of artist Geneviève Duplessis. Each of the children will be able to leave with the work created during this special moment.

Adults will be just as pampered, of course. Thus, for the simple pleasure of words, the Literary Festival joins forces with the Good Humor Club and invites people to participate in the festival’s dictation in order to focus on spelling and grammar. Hosted by Dominique Ferrand and Martine Martel, this dictation promises humor and sharing of knowledge. In the same vein, Joanne Filion, instigator of Paire Littéraire, will offer a creative game with four-handed writing as a key. In the evening, Kim Thúy and Karine Vanasse will be happy to chat with the spectators at the end of the film’s performance Ru. A unique opportunity to collect their impressions!

Four shows complete the festival program. If David Goudreault’s show is already sold out, there are still a few tickets left for the other events. The actors Christian Vézina and Maude Guérin present Love Letters, a funny and touching play by Pulitzer Prize winner AR Gurney. Created by Yergo and performed by Macha Limonchik, the show The wind breathes for you – Colette in Montreal, pays tribute to this irreverent author who defied her time with her desire for freedom. Finally, the event The Farabagliateries will close the festivities. Specially designed for this festival, The Farabagliateries offers a meeting between Alain Farah and Michel Rabagliati. The two authors will draw on their works, where the vagaries of life are combined with humor and tenderness, to discuss their work together. Certainly an inspiring encounter, yes?

The Lac-Brome Literary Festival is one more reason to visit this magnificent corner of the country!
