“Le Cratère”, a moving novel, wins the Closerie des Lilas Prize

Chaired by journalist Claire Chazal, the jury of the Prix de la Closerie des Lilas voted for The Crater, 11th book by Arièle Butaux. By immersing us in the heart of the relationships woven around Lucas, a severely disabled child, the writer, journalist and musician born in 1964, captivated the jurors. “Density and delicacy of the writing, intimate, moving subject on family, disability, childhood, without any tearful crater”, summarizes Claire Chazal. “It’s a text of incredible strength and delicacy that leaves a crater in your heart, a crater that makes you more human,” adds Adélaïde de Clermont-Tonnerre, one of the six members of the founding jury. of the Prize dedicated to women’s literature.

Among the seven jurors invited this year, the actress Bérénice Béjo praised a “sublime ode to the love which binds a sister to her brother”; the journalist Leïla Kaddour evokes “a deaf cry that leaves you speechless. A book that you must encounter” and the novelist Anne Goscinny believes that “silence speaks… An immense book”. Let’s leave the final word to Stéphanie Janicot, another founding member of the prize, but also a journalist at Notre Temps where she gives you her reading advice every month: “An entire universe unfolds in a few pages and it’s great art”.

“Le Cratère” by Arièle Butaux, published in March 2024, 128 pages, €17.
