Digital technology allows the (often constrained) dematerialization of administrative procedures and gives food for thought to libraries which must monitor usage and even anticipate new needs. Departmental libraries are no exception, which work in rural areas, an environment with a sometimes complex relationship with digital technology.

From September 23 to 25, the Association of Departmental Librarians (ABD) therefore invites us to reflect on the many challenges that the advent of the digital society poses for public reading. The meeting place: Puy-en-Velay, in Haute-Loire, long marked by white areas.

Social, economic and environmental responsibility

Do the expensive resources they offer for free have their place? Why offer digital cultural mediation? How can we follow the inevitable development of digital technology while remaining as energy efficient as possible? What training should we offer, which librarians should we recruit? How to use artificial intelligence?

Faced with multiple injunctions (paradoxical or even contradictory, sometimes guilt-inducing)“, these reading and information professionals will sit down to exchange their experiences and analyses” for an informed tomorrow », predicts the association on its detailed (web) page.
