Every day, AlloCiné recommends a film to (re)watch on TV. Tonight: a wonderful popular comedy that is unfairly overlooked.

In June 1940, at the Splendid Hotel in Bordeaux, ministers, journalists, upper class people, demi-mondaines and spies of all stripes gathered. There, a young man will have to choose between a famous actress and a passionate student, between politicians and thugs, between carelessness and adulthood.

This is the pitch for the succulent comedy Bon voyage, which the Arte channel has the rich idea of offering this Wednesday evening. Nominated 11 times for the 2004 César (and winner of three prizes including that of Best Young Actor for Grégori Derangère), Jean-Paul Rappenau’s feature film is a real delight, an oh-so-intelligent popular work which deals through the prism of humor and adventure a dark period of French history.

“Thirty-five years later The good lifemy first film, I return to the period of the war, which is that of my childhood”entrusts Jean-Paul Rappeneau. “What I saw, heard, experienced, the upheavals in the lives of the adults around me, are things that have remained very strongly imprinted on me.”

Romance, humor and love…

The filming of Have a good trip lasted almost twenty weeks and was not short of plans. “There are 1,400 here… and we had to turn them”laughs the director. “In my films, even in a seemingly simple scene, something always happens that complicates everything: rain, smoke, crowds where extras intervene at specific moments.”

In this cheerful Have a good trip in the form of a fresco and with a choice cast (Virginie Ledoyen, Gérard Depardieu, Isabelle Adjani, Yvan Attal…), there is romance, humor, love… In fact, there is a bit of everything, which makes it a truly beautiful cinema film, a tribute to American works of the 30s and 40s that it would be a shame to neglect… What if you were along for the trip?

Tonight on Arte at 8:55 p.m.
