Second year students from the Joseph-Saverne high school wrote and illustrated a book dealing with the prevention of unhappiness and suicide.

Discomfort at school is far from being a preconceived idea, it does indeed exist. It is in this approach that the nurse from the Joseph-Saverne high school in L’Isle-Jourdain, Caroline Boisserie, launched and carried out a project at the end of 2023 with second year students, a writing and illustration project on the basis of a book, “People are beautiful”, by Baptiste Beaulieu, a doctor based in and sensitive to the caregiver-caregiver bond. Addictology and domestic violence are his hobbyhorses. His writings, novels, short stories, comics, articles, etc. have received various awards. For the author, every human has a story.

Starting point for reflection: “Starting from a dream allows for research. What could prevent the dream from succeeding”. For young high school students who are embarking on writing and illustration, a beautiful and rich adventure is beginning. To supervise them, in support of Caroline Boisserie, an educational team made up of Messrs. Pages, Cistac, Lesage, Bousses, Teyssedre and Mr. Xompéro was set up. 7 sessions of 3 hours were necessary to achieve a result.

Unhappiness and suicide

The work, written and illustrated by the students, deals with the prevention of unhappiness and suicide through different life stories, all seen by two students who walk through the story and report what they observe in the within high school: discrimination, depression, eating disorders, etc.

6 groups thus worked on 6 stories, the theme of each story having initially been drawn from the hat to maintain anonymity. To achieve this success, the students were also supervised by the author Alexandra Fritz for the writing part and Joséphine Forme and Julie Longueville, illustrators at the Charettes workshops in Sarrant, for the illustration part.

Lou-Ann, Enola and Lilia are delighted with this constructive and informative exercise. It allowed them to be aware of this scourge, to know themselves, to communicate while exploring written and oral expression.

Caroline Boisserie underlined: “This project responds to a prevention diagnosis. It is important to get to know people and be capable of adaptation and resilience”. The book, with the help of Canopé, will soon see the light of day. This project was supported by the academic director of Education Services (Dasen), the Mutualité sociale agricole (MSA) and Pass Culture.
