Laurent Ruquier did everything to get rid of it but… This disorder from which he suffered and which keeps coming back

On September 11, 2024, Guillaume Pley unveiled a new issue of Legendwith Laurent Ruquier. In addition to having confided in his money or having reacted to a photo in which he is unrecognizable, the presenter – who we find this Friday, September 27 in Who wants to make millions? (TF1) – opened up about a disorder from which he suffered for years.

Hugo Manos’ companion has always been a hard worker. From his earliest childhood, he developed a passion for the world of television and radio. A universe in which he ended up breaking through after winning a competition for RTL. However, he had studied accounting, namely a DEUG in economic and social administration and a DUT in business management and administration. “But I think nothing is useless. It’s still better to study than not to study, I think.“, he stressed.

In addition to his career on television, Laurent Ruquier worked on radio. From 1991, he cut his teeth on Inter. And from 1999, he was recruited on Europe 1, an experience which almost made him lose all self-confidence. After Guillaume Pley pointed out that in the past, he had a hair on his tongue, the host of the Big Heads (RTL) reported: “Yes, I still have it a little, but it is less pronounced than it was. But I took speech therapy lessons thanks or because of a director of Europe 1 at the time who was called Patrice Blanc-Francard. I was an author for Jean Amadou and Maryse Gildas at that time for a daily show, it lasted two years. But I wanted to go on air. Very quickly, kindly, Maryse and Jean Amadou told me: ‘Come on, we’ll give you a minute, two minutes.’ It lasted three days and after three days, the director said to me: ‘Laurent, you are not made to be on the air.’ I think what bothered him the most was what I said, more than my hair on my tongue. (…) It struck me. He said to me: ‘You will never do radio again, you don’t have a radio voice, your hair on your tongue is not possible.‘”

Touched by this remark, Laurent Ruquier went to see a speech therapist and she quickly put him at ease. “She told me it wasn’t serious and taught me some breathing exercises. I’m not even sure it lasted two months. In two months, I had regained confidence, I had forgotten my hair on my tongue, which is coming back elsewhere. As soon as I do a first show or I get a little nervous, it can reappear. But I don’t pay attention to it anymore, it’s part of me today“, he concluded.
