Viewers’ laughter has been ringing out for 16 seasons at the funny situations of the couples in the M6 series. Actors such as Gérard Hernandez, Valérie Karsenti and Frédéric Bouraly have been present since the beginning, in 2009.
Others, like Claudia Mongumu and Ryad Baxx, have played new faces since 2021.
The latter will no longer appear on this program in a few months, TV Magazine announced on July 19. But while M6 had mentioned an editorial decision “by mutual agreement” to reduce the number of couples, other considerations would have led to the departure of the Louise-Jalil couple.
“Everything is a lie”denounced a member of the film crew to Mediapart. The news site details M6’s communication strategy, concerned about keeping up appearances.
A communication strategy that does not work
But actress Claudia Mongumu protests against this communication: “I do not want to participate in any way in a charade to preserve M6. You can’t pull them on me and ask me to highlight them.”she declared to Mediapart.
According to the site, the director of fiction at M6 Quentin de Revel said he considered that the “couple does not tell something sufficiently universal”while affirming that the actors have nothing to reproach themselves for. The person concerned has since denied this statement.
The feeling of having been invisible
Several witnesses estimated that the origins of the couple (Claudia Mongumu plays a woman of Congolese origin, Ryad Baxx a man of Algerian origin) have always concerned the channel. “We had quite a few warnings that our relationship represented something that had been a difficult choice for M6, a risky bet”indicates Claudia Mongumu in particular.
M6 denies “totally” these accusations, just like the fact of having made the couple invisible in the trailers or on social networks.
