CANAL+: some Vivendi assets transferred to the encrypted channel before the split

Before CANAL+’s IPO, Vivendi decided to transfer certain assets to the company “for the sake of consistency”.

In order to make CANAL+ an international media group, its parent company Vivendi has decided to transfer some of its assets to it. This will prepare the IPO which should take place at the end of the year.

Three business segments

With this change made by Vivendi, CANAL+ will thus oversee GVA, an African telecom operator which markets Canalbox, the Dailymotion streaming platform, the L’Olympia performance halls and the L’Œuvre theatre as well as the CanalOlympia cinemas in Africa.

This will allow Groupe CANAL+ to be divided into three business segments with CANAL+ Europe, which includes all activities on the Old Continent and the French Overseas Territories, and CANAL+ Africa and Asia, which includes GVA, CanalOlympia theaters and all activities in Africa and Asia. The third segment will specialize in content production and distribution with Studiocanal, Dailymotion, Théma, L’Olympia and L’Œuvre.

Note that Multichoice and Viu will join the CANAL+ Africa and Asia division while Viaplay will join the CANAL+ Europe division when the encrypted channel group takes full ownership of it.

The weight of the new set

This new configuration makes the CANAL+ Group grow. If these mergers had been implemented before, the whole would have represented a turnover of 6.2 billion euros for 472 million euros of adjusted operating profit (EBITA) and 315 million euros of net operating cash flow with 26.8 million customers including 16 million outside .

Taken side by side, myCANAL and Dailymotion would have represented a global audience of more than 400 million monthly active users with spending of around one billion euros per year on broadcast and streaming infrastructure, software development and customer relationship management.
