Netflix revealed this Friday, September 20, the names of the most watched series of the beginning of the year. A series inspired by a book by Harlan Coben comes in first hands down. But it will not have a sequel.
She managed the feat of overtaking Bridgerton. The series Double trap is officially the most viewed series on Netflix in the first six months of 2024. The platform revealed its viewing figures for the start of the year on Friday, September 20, and British productions are omnipresent. To calculate views, Netflix divides the total number of hours watched by the length of the season. After calculation, it is therefore the series based on the book by Harlan Coben, released on January 1, which has convinced subscribers the most. However, to their great displeasure, Double trap will not have a second season. The British police series tells the story of Maya Stern, an Air Force captain, who loses her sister and her husband, Joe Burkett, one after the other. One day, she discovers her deceased husband’s face on the CCTV footage of her home. At first, she thinks she is hallucinating, but must finally face the facts: something very strange is going on. Maya then makes it her mission to discover the end of the story, despite the disapproval of those close to her.
108 million views in six months for Double trap on Netflix
Double trap generated 108 million views in six months (or 689 million hours watched for 6 hours 25 minutes of series). This is more, in terms of raw figures, than season 3 of Bridgertonreleased on May 16, which still managed to garner 92 million views in two months. The mini-series My little reindeerwhich caused a lot of talk in the spring – to the point of bringing one of the true protagonists of the story out of silence – and which won several Emmy Awards this week, is third in the half-yearly ranking with 88 million views. However, these figures should be taken with a grain of salt since they only reflect a specific period on the platform and not all views. Moreover, in the ranking of the most viewed English-language series in the history of Netflix, season 3 of Bridgerton is 6th when Double trap is 8th. This gap is explained by the calculation method. The historical ranking is based on views during the first 91 days of broadcasting.
Harlan Coben will soon be back with new adaptations of his novels into series
If Double traplike most of Harlan Coben’s projects, will not have a sequel, the novelist continues however to work on the adaptation of several of his novels with Netflix and Prime Video. Fourteen different projects are said to be in the pipeline. Enough to satisfy the passion of crime fans for many years.
