Fashion shows, luxury companies, crafts and haute couture, designers and models, top executives… With The House, to be discovered from this Friday, September 20, Apple TV+ is offering an ambitious series on one of the most important sectors of the French economy. A rivalry between the haute couture house Ledu, a family business, and the large luxury group Rovel, whose director, Diane (whose look was freely inspired by Liliane Bettencourt) has only one desire: to make short work of the house of Ledu. A David versus Goliath face-off, which involves two interesting characters, played by two movie monsters: Carole Bouquet and Lambert Wilson. You need more than that to start watching The House ?

The House (Apple TV+): Manipulations in the fashion world, with a crazy cast

From the first minutes, the series paints a portrait of Vincent Ledu, a creator whose talent cannot erase his misanthropy and narcissism. When his sharp tongue causes him to lose a huge contract with a wealthy Korean family, Vincent loses his temper. Unfortunately, his racist remarks are filmed and broadcast on social media, causing his downfall. From there, the question of his succession arises: who can take his place as artistic director of Ledu? If The House indeed stages this rivalry between the Ledu and the Rovel, the series is, above all, a story of family and filiation. There is Victor, Vincent’s little brother who was ostracized and married Caroline, the Rovel daughter. Marie, the older sister who served as their mother, and her son, Robinson. The blood ties but also the family that we create, with in particular Perle, the former model who became Vincent’s right-hand woman. But above all Paloma Castel, the talented young designer, who embodies a new idea of fashion, and searches in the Maison Ledu for traces of her past. So many finely drawn characters who are guilty, each in turn, of the worst manipulations and betrayals. And played by a high-flying cast: alongside Carole Bouquet and Lambert Wilson, Zita Hanrot, Amira Casar, Pierre Deladonchamps, Anne Consigny and Florence Caille all have a very beautiful part to play.

The House (Apple TV+): a sublime opening sequence, worthy of its series

There is no doubt, the year 2024 is clearly the year of fashion in series. After the biopics on Cristobal Balenciaga and Karl Lagerfeld on Disney+, the countless documentaries on Diane von Furstenberg or the magazine Voguebut also the Apple TV+ series The New Lookfeaturing Christian Dior and Coco Chanel, the American platform once again tackles the subject, but this time through the prism of fiction. And it’s a real success: we quickly get caught up in the game within these two families in conflict. As we unfold the episodes, we gradually discover the flaws of each of the characters. Starting with Vincent, who hides an immense wound under his disdain and coldness and who will gradually let his mask fall. Who says series on fashion, necessarily says drawings, dresses, fashion shows… A grandiose visual setting, announced from the credits, absolutely sublime The House. All in black and white, it seems to have been drawn with a fountain pen and contains many symbols that refer to the plot. A magnificent setting for a very beautiful series, which we hope will continue with a season 2.
