The fire started last night. This Saturday, September 2, machines are still on site to extinguish the last residual outbreaks. According to the mayor, this fire “will have significant economic consequences”.
The fire started around 1:30 a.m. Immediately more than 80 firefighters were dispatched to the scene. They fought the fire all night with eight water hoses.
The sub-prefect of Libourne as well as the mayor of the commune Philippe Buisson went to the site when the firefighters intervened.
An area of 1000m2 was destroyed as well as 16 stalls located on the ground floor of the building. Following this terrible fire, forty people are technically unemployed.
And this Saturday morning, the few vendors who usually come to post themselves outside the hall have not unpacked their goods. Two fire trucks were still on site to put out the residual fires.
“This fire will have significant economic consequences”, declares Philippe Buisson this Saturday, September 1st. “The urgency for us is to recompose a semblance of a market, even precarious. Tomorrow, market day, traders will be able to settle not far from the destroyed hall, on the town hall square”. The city councilor announces his intention to find solutions as soon as possible.
“We will meet on Monday evening with traders and state authorities to assess the possibilities”.
Labor management will also be present to support traders. According to the mayor, it will take months or even years for the covered market to be rebuilt. This hall also housed the village hall.
