Lance Stroll plagued by an infection a few days before the Grand Prix

Bad luck continues to plague Lance Stroll, who was absent from Thursday’s media activities on the sidelines of the Dutch Formula 1 Grand Prix due to an infection.

The Aston Martin team confirmed that the Quebec driver was recovering from this infection, but that he was “in good physical shape” and that he “will drive this weekend”. Stroll has also been observed in garages with a bandage under his left ear.

Should he be absent, the 24-year-old would be replaced by reserve Stoffel Vandoorne, reigning Formula E series champion.

Let’s say that the Montrealer’s second half of the season begins in a painful way. While his team-mate Fernando Alonso has multiplied the podiums this year, Stroll is still looking for a first place in the top 3 and will want to close the gap in the standings with the Spanish veteran.

Ready for the second half

Nevertheless, the team’s technical director, Dan Fallows, was full of praise for the work of its two drivers. In Zandvoort, we will have to take advantage of it to come back in force.

“Taking into consideration the injuries Lance suffered during his preseason cycling accident and his recovery, he performed very well alongside a great teammate,” he explained on the website. Aston Martin, Thursday.

However, the British team was overtaken by Mercedes and McLaren during the last events. Stroll and his team remained third in the constructors’ standings, but Ferrari blew their necks.

“We have worked tirelessly to develop our understanding of AMR23. We believe we now have a good understanding of the car’s weaknesses and are working to address them, Fallows explained. We hope the performance of the car at Zandvoort, with our latest adjustments, will confirm that we are heading in the right direction to help Lance and Fernando fight for the points over the weekend.”

“Both drivers were absolutely essential in helping us understand the car and the areas for improvement,” concluded the technical director.

Towards tennis?

Among the rumors circulating on the planet, several rumors suggest that Stroll could give up motor racing shortly in order to concentrate on tennis, a sport for which he has developed a particular love.

Journalist Ben Anderson mentioned it during an episode of “The Race” podcast, arguing that Alonso was performing too well for the Quebecer. This concedes 102 points in advance to his teammate.

Stroll could also choose to leave F1 voluntarily due to his contract automatically renewing every year.

Will we see him cross swords in tennis with his compatriot Félix Auger-Aliassime soon?
