The German amusement park Europa Park, located in Rust, was the scene of an accident on Monday August 14 around 5 p.m. The diving tower from the Retorno dos Piratas show collapsed onto the adjacent water coaster, injuring five performers and two visitors.
The accident happened during a performance of the Retorno dos Piratas diving show. The show’s mobile basin cracked, causing the 25-meter high diving tower to fall. Debris fell on the arrival area of the Atlantica Super Splash roller coaster.
Five performers and two visitors were injured, three of whom were hospitalized for examinations. A visitor suffered a neck injury. Videos of the show were filmed by visitors and shared on social media.
Park spokesman Noel Ebhart said: “The mobile pool cracked open during one of the performances. The water then spilled into the Atlantica Super Splash attraction lake. He also announced that the Atlantica Super Splash attraction resumed operations on August 15, but the issue of resuming the dive show remains up in the air.
It should be noted that this is not the first incident that has occurred at Europa Park in recent months. Indeed, a fire broke out in the Spanish quarter in June. However, the two accidents are separate and unrelated. Engelbert Gabriel, spokesman for the management of Europa Park, insisted that safety is a priority for the park, the attractions being checked once a year.
The reasons for this accident are currently the subject of a police investigation.
