Dozens of pigs invade the motorway after an accident cuts traffic north of Barcelona

A collision between a car and a truck carrying pigs disrupts traffic on the AP7 north of Barcelona. In shock, the doors of the heavy livestock truck opened and the animals invaded the roadway. The highway is cut in Catalonia, towards France.

The scene takes place this Monday afternoon on the AP7, north of Barcelona.

As a result, more than 10 kilometers of traffic jams and traffic completely interrupted in the south-north direction going up towards Girona.

The collision between a truck and a car was violent. Under the impact, the truck’s tractor went over the central barrier and lay down between the concrete separators and the left lanes.

The rear door of this large cattle truck then opened, releasing dozens of pigs onto the highway.

The firefighters then placed their trucks and emergency vehicles across the four lanes and the hard shoulder, so as to block the road to the animals.

Around 4:30 p.m., there were several kilometers of traffic between Barcelona and the accident, the motorway being closed going up to the north.

In the other direction, a traffic jam has formed, significantly slowing down traffic. For fear of a collision with escaped animals, the police limited the speed and reduced traffic to two lanes.

Meanwhile, firefighters were trying to park the pigs waiting for a truck to pick them up and evacuate them. Then, it will be necessary to wait for the intervention of a crane to put the truck back on its wheels and a tray to transport it to a garage.

A long wait in perspective for stranded motorists because then it will be necessary to sweep and restore the roadway before reopening it to traffic.
