Some 80 firefighters are currently working on a natural fire in an urban area located in Cagnes-sur-Mer, near Nice, learns Le Figaro with the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service of the Alpes-Maritimes (SDIS 06). The heart of the fire is located at the Moulin du Loup estate, near the A8 motorway and the railway line. A large plume of smoke emerges from the area, visible for several kilometers around.

In addition to the men on the ground, a water bomber helicopter was called in as reinforcements to outlaw the fire. No casualties or damage to homes have so far been observed, specifies the SDIS, which evokes a “favourable development of the situation.”

On Twitter, the president of the departmental council of the Alpes-Maritimes, Charles-Ange Ginesy, gave his support to the firefighters, who also intervene in other places in the department. Several relatively large fires broke out in Aiglun, Bairos and Gréolières, in the hinterland.

Internet users have also published sequences showing the virulence with which the flames nibble the vegetation, helped by the gusts that have been sweeping the Côte d’Azur since the beginning of the afternoon. In Nice, the City has also decided to ban swimming between Castel and Poincarré beaches and to close the coastal path. While specifying that swimming is not recommended on the other beaches.

Also on the social network, the national police of the Alpes-Maritimes indicated that road traffic was cut in the sector as well as on the northern roadway of the A8. Rail traffic was also interrupted. It is advisable to avoid the area.
