Accident in a gondola in Mont-Tremblant: one dead and one seriously injured

One person has died and another is in very critical condition after being ejected from their gondola during a cable car ride in Mont-Tremblant on Sunday morning.

Around 11:30 a.m., construction site machinery reportedly struck a gondola with two adults on board, which was at altitude.

“Under the force of this impact, the occupants of the gondola were thrown out of the gondola and ended their fall on the ski slopes,” said Sûreté du Québec spokesperson Éric Cadotte, specifying that the gondola remained attached to its steel cable.

Resuscitation maneuvers were attempted. The death of one of the two people was found at the hospital in the afternoon.

The other person is in a very critical condition. She was transferred to a hospital in Montreal to treat life-threatening injuries.

The gender and age of the occupants are still unknown.

Major crime investigators are currently in Mont-Tremblant to shed light on this tragedy.

“It is very difficult to access the place where the collision took place. The time to go and understand the causes and circumstances of the event, it may still take some time, “said Sergeant Cadotte.

No information was given as to the nature of the construction site which was on the ski slopes.

The ski resort has decided to end all its activities on Sunday, including the Tremblant International Blues Festival “out of respect for all the people on the site,” said spokesperson Annique Aird.
