Here are the new prices of the best -selling brands

As of February 1, 2025, the prices of cigarettes and tobacco to roll will increase again in . This initiative, included in the government strategy to combat smoking, aims to reduce consumption by making these products less and less financially accessible.

This increase applies to the majority of popular brands, with a progressive adjustment planned until 2027 to reach an average price of 13 euros per package. The government justifies this policy by its health and tax objectives.

By dissuading consumption, he hopes to reduce the devastating effects of smoking, responsible for nearly 75,000 annual deaths. In addition, the tax revenues generated are used to finance public health spending, in particular those linked to diseases caused by tobacco.

New tobacco rates in February

The planned increases vary depending on brands and formats. Here is a table of the main adjustments:

Marque Price in January 2025 (€) Price in February 2025 (€) Augmentation (€)
Marlboro Red 12,80 13,00 0,20
Camel Filters 12,40 12,70 0,30
Blue Blonde Gauls 12,30 12,50 0,20

These increases are added to the increases in January, marking continuity in the taxation effort to reduce the accessibility of tobacco products, particularly with young smokers.

Impacts on consumption and trade

Despite these increases, around 12 million French people remain regular smokers. Anti-Tabac associations support this policy, claiming that it gradually reduces access to tobacco, while encouraging consumers to reduce their consumption or consider stopping.

However, this strategy arouses criticism. Boralists, for example, fear an increase in cross -border and black market purchases. In neighboring countries such as Belgium, Spain or Luxembourg, prices remain much lower, attracting many French consumers. This situation reduces the expected benefits of taxation and weakens small businesses.

The effects on modest households also feed the debate. Although some consumers decrease their consumption, others continue to buy, even at high prices, which highlights the limits of this approach.

Despite the controversies, the government remains firm in its desire to pursue this policy. Price increases are considered an essential lever to improve public health while funding expenses linked to the pathologies caused by tobacco.
