Android update 16 for Pixel 9 Pro and other Google phones is now available: A public beta with new features awaits you

According to Google’s updated timeline, Android 16 is already scheduled for release in Q2 2025, which means the update should arrive by the end of June. The first public beta introduces live notifications, which are similar to those on iPhones and are constantly updated to show the latest football scores or the estimated arrival time of an Uber, for example.

On Android 16, apps should work in portrait and landscape mode and automatically adapt to the orientation of larger screens found in foldable smartphones and tablets. Apps with unsightly black bars on the left and right are no longer allowed. Android version 16 also supports the Advanced Professional Video (APV) codec, which can render 10-bit video virtually lossless at data rates up to 2 Gbps.
