(Updated with details)

The Russian Defense Ministry said on Friday that its air defense systems had intercepted and destroyed 121 drones launched overnight by Ukraine.

The drones were killed above 13 Russian regions, some of which above Moscow and its surroundings, the ministry said in a statement released on Telegram, without mentioning victims or damage.

According to the Ministry of Defense, six drones were destroyed above the Moscow region and one above the city itself, while others aimed at other Russian regions, especially those bordering the Ukraine and Koursk, where Ukrainian troops have part of the territory since last summer despite the efforts made by Moscow to chase them.

The mayor of Moscow, Sergei Sobianine, said on Friday that the air defenses had intercepted Ukrainian drone attacks on four sites around the capital.

Twenty drones also targeted the Riazan region, southeast of Moscow, the ministry said.

The region’s governor, Pavel Malkov, said on Telegram that the rescue teams had extinguished a fire after drone debris damaged a house.

The Ministry of Defense specifies that drones have also been destroyed above the border regions of Brita and Belgorod and the Crimean Peninsula annexed by Russia. The Oblasts of Saratov, Rostov, Voronej, Toula, Orel and Lipetsk were also targeted.
