An alarming incident has recently been reported by a Reddit user, including the Gigabyte M6880X game mouse spontaneously caught fire, causing significant material damage. Gigabyte is currently investigating this case, highlighting the importance of consumer safety and the precautions to be taken with aging electronic devices.
Do you think you have one of the best game mouse? Think again. A Reddit user recently pointed out a disturbing incident concerning their Gigabyte M6880X game mouse, which would have caught fire spontaneously, filling their black smoke apartment and causing important material damage.
The user, known as Lommelinn, shared images showing the melted mouse, burning brands on the desk and a destroyed mouse mat. He said he discovered the “burning with large flames” apparatus, which he quickly turned off. Despite its rapid intervention, the version was covered with black particles, affecting other equipment, including a modular synthesizer.
Gigabyte M6880X is an old wired optical mouse, over a decade. Given its age, natural wear and tear may have contributed to the incident. It should be noted that the device does not have internal batteries, thus excluding an overheating linked to the battery. Experts suggest that a short circuit or hardware degradation over time could be potential causes.
