Fenerbahçe coach José Mourinho defended his Lyon counterpart Pierre Sage, more than ever in the hot seat. With a dig at club bosses including John Textor…
Pierre Sage will appreciate it. If the future of the Olympique Lyonnais coach is still uncertain after Les Gones’ draw at Fenerbahçe (0-0) in the Europa League, he can count on the support of José Mourinho. On the bench opposite, the Portuguese coach supported the Lyon technician whose contract expires in 2026, while addressing a dig at the new club bosses, the American John Textor in the lead.
“There are no more presidents like Mr. Aulas”
“Football now… Incredible numbers of clubs, with owners, with presidents who know nothing about football,” declared the Special One, interviewed by Canal+. “There are no longer presidents who stay 20 years like Mr. Aulas, like Mr. Pinto da Costa (at FC Porto), people who understand what football is. This team is a good team. And a good team is only a good team when the coach is a good coach.”
Pierre Sage, for his part, spoke of his personal case after the meeting while the club has already surveyed Paulo Fonseca: “I think that it is a very negative pressure which could influence the choices of the coaches. I invite you to reason and to avoid relaying this type of information,” he declared after the meeting. OL will travel to Nantes on Sunday (5:15 p.m.) for the 19th day of Ligue 1.
