A second selection, made up of three titles, will be revealed on Thursday February 27, while the prize will be awarded on Thursday March 27.
In 1996, to ensure the sustainability of this distinction, Christiane Teurlay-Freustié, who died in 2010, founded the Jean Freustié Prize Foundation under the aegis of the Fondation de France, which manages the funds. Pia Daix serves as Secretary General of the jury. Thanks to the large initial endowment provided by the founder, this prize is among the best endowed in France, with an annual reward of €25,000.
Intended for a French-speaking writer, this prize recognizes a work in prose — novel, short story, autobiography or essay. Faithful to the spirit of lucid introspection which characterized Jean Freustié, it mainly rewards a promising author or supports a writer whose work has not yet been distinguished by the major literary prizes of the fall.
