Fuel prices increase in 2025: motorists under tension

Bad news for motorists, since the start of the year fuel prices have been increasing. After a period of relative stability, prices are starting to rise again, creating a feeling of worry among consumers who fear a further increase in the months to come.

Surprise at the pump, prices are soaring!

According to data collected between January 13 and 19 by the Ministry of Ecological Transition, the price of a liter of diesel was 1.72 while that of SP 95-E10 reached 1.77 . This increase marks the end of the downward trend observed during the second half of 2024. Since the start of 2025, the prices of these two fuels have increased by 6 cents for diesel and 3 cents for SP. 95-E10.

For many drivers, this price increase is eating into their budget. In this context, some people have no choice but to restrict their travel and adopt more economical driving to limit their fuel consumption. In addition to this new financial constraint, households already faced with other heavy burdens (debts, unpaid debts, etc.) may see their expenses accumulate, which, in certain cases, exposes them to the risk of over-indebtedness.

An international situation which is driving up prices

Several factors combine to explain this rise in prices. First, the drop in temperatures causes an increase in demand for oil during the winter period. This makes the supply of diesel scarce and increases prices at the pump. To this is added an increasingly tense geopolitical context which further weakens the supply. However, despite this upward trend, prices should stabilize in the coming weeks, according to several specialists, reported by Info.

Successive increases in fuel prices add to the budgetary pressure on households, already weakened by inflation. For many, it is becoming essential to find alternative solutions to limit the impact of this new increase on their daily lives.
