The spectacular rise in energy prices in 2022 has led to abuses. At that time, electricity and gas suppliers had to review the method of calculating their tariff and their supply strategy. In fact, they “did not allow them to provide their services at the price agreed by their contract”, indicates the Directorate General for Competition, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Control (DGCCRF) in a press release published on January 22, 2025. Except that some of them took the opportunity to “revise their contractual conditions without properly informing consumers”. The fraud was identified following checks carried out by the DGCCRF. “It was found that the general conditions of sale (CGV) and the contracts of several suppliers did not comply with the consumer code.” More concretely, abuses were noted at three levels:
Out of 27 establishments inspected, 17 presented irregularities. The DGCCRF has not communicated the list of energy suppliers concerned. This is confidential information. However, you can already cross-reference the information from your contract with that mentioned above.
